Testimony – HOLLY

Sometimes we’d like to think that issues like depression cannot effect us once we’ve accepted the Lord and have a relationship with Him. We often feel that Christians should  somehow be immune to such struggles. That is simply not the case. But as Christians, we do have solid truth in God’s word that can provide direction and help us maintain a joy that is deeper than any happiness or depression – a joy based on eternal truth and not circumstances. We also have a body of fellow believers that can help us navigate difficult seasons and cirumstances. This week, we’ll hear how the Lord brought Holly through recovery and to victory over this struggle.

“I entered a state of apathy and depression. Even though struggling with depression before, this felt like being in my own personal hell. I stopped caring about myself and others.  It seemed that all my pent up emotion, unresolved grief, and inability to deal with loss had finally caught up with me. Simple everyday routines were a struggle for me. I was too depressed to even eat. Already being anemic, this contributed to intense dizzy spells and periods of passing out. I went to church only because I had a commitment to teaching a class of wonderful preschoolers. I neglected my Bible reading for the most part, cut myself off from the community of believers, and prayed occasionally. I felt, however, as if my prayers were bouncing off the walls. I had no direction, no plans, no vision and no joy.”

“I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten–the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm.”  Joel 2:25a

Recovery Reminder

Principle 6: Evaluate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others, except when to do so would harm them or others.

“Happy are the merciful.” Matthew 5:7

“Happy are the peacemakers.” Matthew 5:9

Step 8: We made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.

“Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Luke 6:31
