Lesson #15 – VICTORY

This week, we move forward in our recovery to tackle the question: “How can you have victory over your character defects?” As we dig into some answers to that question, we’ll look into how we can identify which character defects to address first. We must understand that God wants to change much more than just our behaviors. He wants to change the very way we think. After all, our actions are a result of our thoughts and beliefs.

It’s also important to remember that these defects and habits were not developed overnight, so we must not fool ourselves into thinking that they will disappear overnight either. Recovery happens one day at a time and with the Lord and our support team by our side. Ultimately, to make changes in our lives, the most necessary thing we must do is be entirely ready to let God be the life-changer, and with Him, we WILL have victory.

“God gives strength to the humble…so give yourselves humbly to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. And when you draw close to God, God will draw close to you.”  James 4:6-8

Recovery Reminder

Principle 5: Voluntarily submit to every change God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects.

“Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires.” Matthew 5:6

Step 6: We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.” James 4:10
