NAIL IT TO THE CROSS

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  Matthew 11:28-30

This week we are coming together to recognize that there are burdens we carry with us that are simply not ours to bear. We may have carried them with us for a few short weeks or several long, exhausting years. Sometimes we grow accustomed to them and somehow find comfort in them always being there. But God has called us to a better life – a life that is not weighed down by such burdens as anxiety, shame, depression, or guilt. No matter how long we have born their weight, we will come together with one purpose – to lay them at the foot of the cross.

We must acknowledge that we are not capable of carrying these burdens on our own. Instead, we must place them in the loving and capable hands of our Lord.  On the cross, He already bore the weight of our sin, and from that point on, as soon as we ask Him for forgiveness, He freely gives it to us. That forgiveness instantly releases us from the burden of our sins, our past, our mistakes. We must be willing to accept His forgiveness and allow Him to take our burdens from us. Join us this week as trade in our burdens, both new and old, for the peace that only Christ can provide.  You are also welcome to join us for the Lord’s supper.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”  John 14:27

Recovery Reminder

Principle 8: Yield myself to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and by my words.              “Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires.” Matthew 5:10

Step 12: Having had a spiritual experience as the result of these steps, we try to carry this message to others and to practice these principles in all our affairs.                                                                                                                                       “Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.”  Galatians 6:1

WHAT TO BRING: Since you won’t be spending $10 on a gift for the exchange, we are asking that you considering bringing a donation to help cover the cost of the mason jar cookies.

We are looking forward to a wonderful night of fellowship. Please RSVP to Kendall at kendall.myette@gmail.com with the total number of people coming with you.
