Testimony – BEKAH
This week, a story of surrender. Maybe, like Bekah, you sometimes find yourself turning to an old habit or hang-up in order to cope with who or what surrounds you. This Thursday night during Large Group, Bekah will share with us how she was able to surrender her own coping mechanisms to the Lord and stop relying on her own strength to overcome her addiction. We look foward to seeing you on Thursday! An excerpt from Bekah’s story:
“I attended Celebrate Recovery that Thursday night. The drive to that meeting took
every ounce of energy and courage I had. I came in right on time and took a seat in the back.
I noticed people seemed kind of happy to be there. I shared for the first time in Newcomer’s 101 that I was an alcoholic and I took a blue chip to symbolize my surrender of my addiction. I
was making the next right choices. I reluctantly kept coming back every Thursday night. I
joined a step study and finally began to uncover a dirty collection of hurt. One by one, I
uncovered and dusted off my coping skills that were buried deep into my childhood.
Sobriety was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do in my life.”
“ He gives power to the weak, and strength to the powerless.” Isaiah 40:29 NLT
Recovery Reminder
Principle 1: Realize I’m not God. I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable.
“Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires.” Matthew 5:3
Step 1: We admitted we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors, that our lives had become unmanageable.
“I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” Romans 7:18
