Lesson #2 – POWERLESS

It is part of human nature to have at least an occasional lust for power. This desire to have power and control is rooted not in our strengths but in our weaknesses and our insecurities. We have a very difficult time giving up actual power and even our desire for power. Many of us find it fairly easy to admit that God is all-powerful, but seem to struggle when it comes down to admitting that we are not and that we do not have ultimate control over our lives.

It is only when we have emptied ourselves of our pride and our desire for power that we have room for God to come in and begin His healing work. Join us as we navigate some ways in which we can begin to hand over control to the Lord – the one who always knows and desires the very best for us.

“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26

Recovery Reminder

Principle 1: Realize I’m not God. I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable.

“Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires.”  Matthew 5:3

Step 1: We admitted we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors, that our lives had become unmanageable.

“I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” Romans 7:18
