Lesson #1 – DENIAL
This week, we once again set out on the road to recovery together. We begin with Principle 1, where we first admit that we are powerless to control our urge to do the wrong thing, even when we want to do what is right. As we set out, we will undoubtedly come across people and other obstacles that will attempt to hold us back from walking the path that God has laid out for us. At Celebrate Recovery, we seek to hold one another accountable to pushing those things–past hurts, harmful habits, unhealthy fears, etc.–aside so that we might seek and gain victory over the obstacles in our lives. Join us this week as we discuss healthy coping skills to overcome these road blocks along our road to recovery.
“Since we have such a huge crowd of men of faith watching us from the grandstands, let us strip off anything that slows us down or holds us back, and especially those sins that wrap themselves so tightly around our feet and trip us up; and let us run with patience the particular race that God has set before us.” Hebrews 12:1 (TLB)
Recovery Reminder:
Principle 1: Realize I’m not God. I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable. “Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires.” Matthew 5:3
Step 1: We admitted we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors, that our lives had become unmanageable. “I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” Romans 7:18
