Testimony – FLO
We are so blessed to have many within our ministry who are willing to make themselves vulnerable by getting up before us to share & encourage us with their story of recovery. This week, we will hear from Flo, who will tell about the path God has led her down as she seeks to truly live and find fulfillment in Him. Our prayer is that each of us would be encouraged by all that she shares. Below is a brief glimpse at Flo’s story.
“I was in between – not dead but not living either. For most of my life I wanted to die. It is not that I always wished to die but that life was too much, too hard for me, and I wanted out. As a Christian I felt that suicide was not a good option for me. I didn’t want to live, but I couldn’t kill myself; I felt trapped. So I went through the motions of life yet somehow not participating. I went to school, spent time with family and friends, went to college, took some bad detours, got back on track, started a career, married, divorced, married again, and so on. I used terrible and harmful ways to cope with going through the motions while feeling dead inside. I had not truly lived until about a year and a half ago when, after coming to Celebrate Recovery a few times, I finally began to choose life.”
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice–the kind He will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship Him.” – Romans 12:1 [NLT]
Principle 1: Realize I’m not God. I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable.
“Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires.” Matthew 5:3
Step 1: We admitted we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors, that our lives had become unmanageable.
“I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” Romans 7:18
