Testimony – TIFFANY

The struggle between the Spirit and the flesh is difficult and on-going. As we grow in our relationship with the Lord and become more familiar with the Bible, we gain head knowledge of what we should do and how we should be. But head knowledge that never makes it to our heart, where it can affect our choices and actions, is not worth much. Therein lies the struggle. We may know what to do but we lack the self-control to follow through. Come be encouraged as Tiffany shares how the Lord helped her push past that hurdle, shifting head knowledge to heart knowledge, which led to choices and lifestyle changes that were more honoring to the Lord and more beneficial to her. Here’s a preview:

“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41

“I continued to find myself saying , ‘Yes, yes, yes,’ and then feeling overburdened, frustrated, empty and angry. I was trying to find my worth in this man and continued to put extreme pressures on him to make me happy and satisfy my insecurities; I was trying to find in him what only Jesus could provide for me.  With this new group of his friends, I found my life filled with drinking, partying, strip clubs, promiscuity, and even doing drugs on occasion. Over the years, I found myself becoming this person that I was really unhappy with. The destination of my disobedience was disastrous, and I could sense this life I was living just wasn’t right. My out of control emotions, constant insecurity, inability to trust anyone, desire to control everyone and everything else, the blackouts, the hangovers, the guilt, and the excuses were just draining. I had the desire to do what was good but I could not carry it out.  I could will it, but I couldn’t do it. I would decide to do good, but then I wouldn’t do it; I would decide not to do bad, but then I’d do it anyway. My decisions never resulted in actions. Something had gone wrong deep within me and got the better of me every time.”

“I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life.”  Psalm 119:93

Recovery Reminder

Principle 5: Voluntarily submit to every change God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects.

“Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires.” Matthew 5:6

Step 6: We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.” James 4:10
