Testimony – Ben

How great when those who have gone before us are willing to invest in others by sharing what they have learned along their journey of recovery. So many times God touches our lives through the lives of others. Come this Thursday night and allow God to encourage and strengthen you through Ben’s testimony. Below is a glimpse at how God has worked in Ben’s life.  When we finally come to the end of ourselves, relinquish our control, and surrender to the love of God, He can bring about change in spite of ourselves.  Praise God that He has used those of us at CR to bring this about!

Working the steps required me to chip off the layers of insulation in which I’d wrapped my soul: faking my relationships by telling people what they wanted to hear, criticizing and berating myself relentlessly, blaming my circumstances on others, attempting to outsmart the consequences of my mistakes, and medicating my mental pain with the myth of being in control.  It all had to go in order to move forward in the study.  Early on I hit one of the biggest obstacles in my recovery, which continues to be a struggle for me.  Principle 2 says, “Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him and that He has the power to help me recover.” I didn’t have a problem believing in God, but the idea that He believed in me and truly wanted my best was a different story.

John 6: 68-69  Simon Peter replied, “Master, to whom shall we go?  You alone have the words that give eternal life, 69 and we believe them and know you are the holy Son of God. “
