This Thursday is Lesson #12 — CONFESS

This week we jump right into Step 5 (below). This step is saying that we can only go so far alone, meaning that at some point, we reach a place where continued growth and healing are going to require assistance from someone else. In Step 5, we are asked to come clean by telling another person the truth about who we really are and what we have really done. This is the very definition of confession. Join us this week as we learn how confessing actually means agreeing with God about our sins and shortcomings. Over time, our sins have built up a barrier between us and God. Confession works to restore the fellowship that has been lost because of this barrier.

“There was a time I wouldn’t admit what a sinner I was. But my dishonesty made me miserable and filled my days with frustration…My strength evaporated like water on a sunny day until I finally admitted all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide them. I said to myself, ‘I will confess them to the Lord.’ And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone!” Psalm 32: 3 – 5

Recovery Reminder

Principle 4: Openly examine and confess my faults to myself, to God, and to someone I trust.

“Happy are the pure in heart.” Matthew 5:8

Step 5: We admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.”  James 5:16
