Testimony: DERRICK

This week we will hear the testimony of our ministry leader Derrick. Here is an excerpt from part of his story:

“They were going to Saddleback Church to learn how to start a program called Celebrate Recovery. He said it was a program where broken people can get help for their hurts, habits and hang-ups. Talk about timing. This pastor and his wife came back to start Celebrate Recovery at the church. We were part of the first step study group.  We were also there for the celebration of the opening night of CR. As we started, we were mad at God. We were mad at each other. We were scared for the safety and well being of our children. We did not trust other people, and we surely did not trust the church. We were broken. But somehow as we worked the steps we began to have hope. God was at work. He had not abandoned us. He had been faithful in the past and he was being faithful in the present.”

Lamentations 3:19-24 The Message

19-21 I’ll never forget the trouble, the utter lostness, the taste of ashes, the poison I’ve swallowed. I remember it all—oh, how well I remember — the feeling of hitting the bottom. But there’s one other thing I remember, and remembering, I keep a grip on hope:

22-24 God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, his merciful love couldn’t have dried up. They’re created new every morning. How great your faithfulness! I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over). He’s all I’ve got left.
