Lesson 20: DAILY INVENTORY

“Jesus replied: ‘Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'”  Matthew 22:37-40

God has provided us with a daily checklist for our new lifestyle, as we are now seeking to exhibit self-control instead of attempting to control every situation & person we come into contact with. When doing our daily personal inventory, we should ask ourselves, “Today, did my actions show what the second-greatest commandment (in the verses above) tells me to do? Did I love my neighbor and others as myself?”

As we strive to live out both of the above commandments in our lives, we will become more like Christ. We will become doers and not just hearers of God’s Word, keeping in mind that we may be the only Bible someone ever reads. It is by our actions and by our love towards others that we can point to the love of Christ. By taking an ongoing and daily inventory of our actions, focusing not only on areas that need improvement but also on our victories, we can work Step 10 to the best of our ability. With God’s help, we can keep our amends list short, while also acknowledging and being encouraged by the areas in which God has helped us to achieve our victories.

“If I had the gift of being able to speak in other languages without learning them, and could speak in every language there is in all of heaven and earth, but didn’t love others, I would only be making noise.”  1 Corinthians 13:1

Recovery Reminder

Principle 7: Reserve daily time with God for self-examination, Bible reading, & prayer in order to know God and His will for my life & to gain the power to follow His will.

Step 10: We continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.

“So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!”  1 Corinthians 10:12
