Lesson #18 – GRACE
In recent weeks we have talked about how to evaluate our relationships, offer up forgiveness to people in our lives who have hurt us, and make amends for harm and hurt we have caused in the lives of others. As we grow in our recovery and as Christians, it’s so important for us to follow the guidance and directions of Jesus Christ. As we come to know Him better, we will naturally want to model His teachings and His ways in our lives. Essentially, we will want to become more like Him. In order to model something or someone’s behavior, we must first know the example we are to follow. When we closely examine the life of Christ as shown in the Bible, we quickly see that the characteristic of grace is such an important part of His interactions with people. Please join us this week as we take a deeper look specifically at God’s grace and learn how we can best exemplify it to others.
“Though we were spiritually dead because of the things we did against God, He gave us new life with Christ. You have been saved by God’s grace.” Ephesians 2:5
“Let us, then, feel very sure that we can come before God’s throne where there is grace. There we can receive mercy and grace to help us when we need it.” Hebrews 4:16
Recovery Reminder
Principle 6: Evaluate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others, except when to do so would harm them or others.
“Happy are the merciful.” Matthew 5:7
“Happy are the peacemakers.” Matthew 5:9
Step 9: We made direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
“Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.” Matthew 5:23-24
