Testimonies – FORGIVENESS

“Jesus came into the world to save sinners–of whom I am the worst.”  1 Timothy 1:15-16

We hope you will join us this week as we hear personal testimonies regarding a topic that is such an integral part of our recovery–forgiveness. The following is an excerpt from a testimony we will have the privilege of hearing:

“So, I opened up my laptop and opened up a Word Doc, and before I put my fingers on the keys, I prayed.  I prayed to God and told Him that I do not forgive this person right now, but I want to. I begged Jesus for the freedom I knew would be mine once I was able to forgive and I knew it wouldn’t come to me until I sincerely forgave.  I asked him that through the writing of this letter He would change my heart, allow me to see this person the way He sees them and forgive them for once and for all.  And then I started to type.”

“Help us, God our Savior, for the glory of your name; deliver us and forgive our sins for your name’s sake.”  Psalm 79:9

“But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.”  Psalm 130:4

Recovery Reminder

Principle 6: Evaluate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others, except when to do so would harm them or others.

“Happy are the merciful.”  Matthew 5:7

“Happy are the peacemakers.”  Matthew 5:9

Step 9: We made direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

“Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.”  Matthew 5:23-24
